German Centre’s Biannual Speaker Series Shines Spotlight on Family Dynamics in Elder Care

On Saturday, October 26, the German Centre held the latest installment in its Biannual Speaker Series, drawing a diverse audience of families, caregivers, and community members to the Holtzer Auditorium. Centered around the theme “Family Dynamics: Caring for Aging Loved Ones,” the event provided attendees with expert insights and actionable strategies to navigate the complexities of elder care.

This year’s panel featured three distinguished experts: Emily Shea, Commissioner of Boston’s Age Strong Commission; Carl Emilio D’Angio Jr., Esq. from D’Angio Law Offices; and Anna Alvarado-Allen, Registered Nurse at the German Centre’s Senior Place Adult Day Health Program. Each speaker brought a unique perspective, offering their expertise on city resources, legal planning, and caregiving practices that can empower families as they support their aging loved ones.

The panel discussion covered a range of critical topics, from underutilized community resources and essential legal preparations to practical communication techniques that help families navigate difficult conversations. Following the panel, attendees participated in a lively Q&A session, further highlighting the relevance and urgency of these discussions in today’s society.

The event underscored the German Centre’s commitment to building a compassionate and informed community around aging issues, offering vital support to families on their caregiving journeys.
