Dear Residents and Families,
Every summer in New England brings sunnier days and brighter outlooks. As I walk through our buildings and visit with our staff and residents, I witness a renewed sense of normalcy. On behalf of our staff, I want to thank you for the sacrifices you have made under unprecedented safety protocols and restrictions. Without your cooperation and understanding, we would not be turning the corner with such excitement. Our mission is fulfilled when we see our families and residents coming together to celebrate birthdays, babies, graduations, and anniversaries.
I am so proud of our staff! I know you share my gratitude and admiration for their work. I extend my heartfelt thanks to our employees for their incredible dedication, loyalty, courage, and compassion. COVID-19 has been devastating, especially for those of us who have come to care so much for our beloved residents. They have persevered throughout these challenging times. Truly, they are the real heroes here.
Even as our communities relax outside our walls, we cannot waiver in our commitment and vigilance in preventing the spread of the virus. Our top priority is always the health of our residents and our staff. With over 323 million doses administered in the United States, the COVID-19 vaccines have been proven to be both safe and effective. We therefore will require all employees to be vaccinated against COVID19, effective after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) grants final approval of one of the three vaccines. After consulting with experts and careful consideration, we feel strongly that requiring staff to be vaccinated is the most important action we can do to ensure the safety of our long-term care communities.
Thankfully, we are already well positioned to meet this mandate. Last December when vaccines were initially made available, we launched an extensive education campaign titled “Superheroes Saving Lives”. About 75% of our employees are vaccinated, meeting the national goal for long-term care providers. To further prepare for this mandate, senior leadership will continue to offer comprehensive information about vaccine safety and efficacy as well as one-on-one education and support. In addition, all campuses will offer on-site vaccination clinics to facilitate meeting this important requirement.
Our mission has been, and always will be, to provide the highest quality care possible to each and every resident. We will do whatever it takes to keep our residents safe and healthy. By being the first long-term care provider group in Massachusetts issuing this mandate, we are protecting our residents, our staff, and our communities. There is nothing more important.
