Volunteers are an important part of our community at Deutsches Altenheim. The individuals who donate their time and services create a positive home care environment and contribute to the well-being of our residents, patients, families, and staff. In return, volunteers are given the gift of friendship and appreciation from residents.
Become part of the Deutsches Altenheim community today! Our volunteer program has a wide range of opportunities that can be tailored to each volunteer’s specific interests and skills. We offer positions at German Centre for Extended Care, Senior Place Adult Day Health or Edelweiss Village Assisted Living.
Deutsches Altenheim volunteers reflect a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Ranging from teens and students to retirees and professionals. We maintain strong relationships with several local schools and students fulfilling community service requirements, as they provide valuable assistance to staff and residents while also learning about senior care and geriatric lifestyles. We also welcome groups and family members to join us and spend time with the residents.
Understanding that people have obligations and commitments outside of volunteering, we encourage you to set your own schedule. You may decide to volunteer days or evenings, an hour or two a week, or once a month. No matter how much time you can give, you will make a difference!
Volunteer opportunities vary, and may include:
- One-on-one visits with residents and patients
- Visiting with certified therapy pets
- Leading or assisting with recreation activities
- Entertaining residents
- Bartending in our Ratskeller or Bierstube
- Assisting with outings
- Special event support
- Clerical support
