As we head into Thanksgiving, we want to update you on the current protocols and procedures for the upcoming holiday. While Thanksgiving will indeed be different this year as the state and country brace for another wave of COVID-19, we want to assure you we are focused on making the holiday truly special for your family members. More than anything, we want to keep your loved ones safe.
Staying Safe this Holiday Season
The Department of Public Health (DPH) strongly advises families not to take their loved ones out of assisted livings and skilled nursing residences this year. We agree this is the safest course of action to follow, and are strongly recommending that you do not take your loved ones out of our home. Please understand we are not saying this lightly. Our residents are a high-risk group due to their age and the probability of contracting the virus is well above average. Clearly, we realize Thanksgiving is a time when families want to be together, yet it is vital to consider the consequences this year. In the event that you decide not to follow this recommendation, in order to protect other residents, we will quarantine your loved one for 14 days after they return.
This year, please celebrate with your loved one virtually or through in person visits when available. Being able to see and talk with family members makes a huge difference to them – and to you. Additionally, we have planned a memorable Thanksgiving Day for our residents, including a delicious holiday meal with all the trimmings. From savory roast turkey to classic home-made stuffing to a medley of freshly baked desserts, our Thanksgiving meal will be one to savor. Beyond the festive meal, residents may enjoy watching a variety of holiday movies or football games.
In Person Visits
Keep in mind it is imperative to follow safety guidelines during in person visits including mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing. All in-person visits and off-sites are subject to relevant guidance and protocols Prior to any in-person visit, all participants should screen themselves for COVID-19 symptoms and are encouraged to get a COVID-19 test. Please check mass.gov/covid-19-testing for locations. Out-of-state family members visiting for the holidays must comply with all travel requirements outlined in the Massachusetts COVID-19 travel order. You may schedule visits before or after Thanksgiving Day here. Based upon circumstances, we may suspend in-person visits and move to outdoor or virtual-only, however you will be notified of any changes ahead of time.
Please know we are here to answer all of your questions and address your concerns. Feel free to call or email me to discuss your specific plans. It is our fervent hope that by acting prudently this year, all of us will enjoy a traditional holiday celebration next year.
We thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Together we can make this holiday cheerful and safe for your loved ones.
Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
