Residents and Families of German Centre:
As our state and country face another wave of COVID-19, I want to update you on our protocols and procedures throughout the holiday season. Please know that our number one priority revolves around keeping your loved ones safe.
Staying Safe this Holiday Season
We asked our families not to take their loved ones out for the Thanksgiving holiday and we are deeply appreciative for your cooperation during that time. It made a tremendous difference in keeping the virus at bay. For the December holidays, the Department of Public Health (DPH) is again strongly advising families not to take their loved ones out of assisted living and skilled nursing residences. We agree this is the safest course of action to follow and are strongly recommending that you do not take your loved ones out of our home. Please understand we are not saying this lightly. Our residents are a high-risk group due to their age, and the probability of contracting the virus is well above average. Clearly, we realize the holidays are a time when families want to be together, yet it is vital to consider the consequences this year. In the event that you decide not to follow this recommendation, in order to protect other residents, we will quarantine your loved one for 14 days after they return.
This year, please celebrate with your loved one virtually or through in-person visits on campus, when available. Being able to see and talk with family members makes a huge difference to them – and to you. Additionally, we have planned activities, meals, and special events to make the coming holidays as festive and memorable as possible.
Keep in mind it is imperative to follow safety guidelines during in-person visits, including mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing. All in-person and off-site visits are subject to relevant guidance and protocols. Prior to any in-person visit, all participants should screen themselves for COVID-19 symptoms and are encouraged to get a COVID-19 test. Please check mass.gov/covid-19-testing for locations. Out-of-state family members visiting for the holidays must comply with all travel requirements outlined in the Massachusetts COVID-19 travel order. Based upon circumstances, we may suspend in-person visits and move to outdoor or virtual-only, however you will be notified of any changes ahead of time.
We are here to answer all of your questions and address your concerns. Feel free to call or email me to discuss your specific plans. It is our fervent hope that by acting prudently this year, all of us will enjoy a traditional holiday celebration next year.
I thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Together, we can make this holiday season cheerful and safe for your loved ones.
Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy holiday season. Here’s to a wonderful 2021!
