As of April 29, 2020, there are 41 confirmed cases of COVID-19 at German Centre. Since the first positive test result in late March, there have been 17 deaths among test-positive residents and patients. We extend our deepest sympathy to their families and friends, and we are working diligently to care for all those who are battling the virus.
Because we know this virus is highly contagious and individuals can test positive before they show symptoms, testing asymptomatic individuals is critical to stopping the spread. Currently, no residents of Edelweiss Village, our assisted living residence, are symptomatic or test-positive for COVID-19. We are waiting on the arrival of test kits and residents and staff will be tested as a precautionary measure.
Members of the staff at both German Centre and Edelweiss Village are certainly not immune to the virus. To date, 15 members of our staff tested positive for COVID-19 and were placed on medical leave. Some of those individuals have been cleared by their physician and have returned to work.
The availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) has been an ongoing issue on our campus – as it has been in many other facilities. We were fortunate to receive donations of PPE from several individuals, as well as organizations large and small. We are truly grateful for this outpouring of support. We continue our relentless search for additional resources to keep our inventory stable. Our current supply of PPE is sufficient to meet our needs for the upcoming week.
