As of May 5, 2020, there are 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19 at German Centre. Since the first positive test result in late March, there have been 20 deaths among test-positive residents and patients. We extend our deepest sympathy to their families and friends, and we are working diligently to care for all those who are battling the virus.
To date, 15 members of the staff at German Centre tested positive for COVID-19 and were placed on medical leave. Some of those individuals have been cleared by their physician and have returned to work. Governor Baker has mandated that all nursing home staff be tested for the virus. German Centre has completed the paperwork to begin that process.
Coronavirus tests were performed on all residents and staff of Edelweiss Village, our assisted living residence. All residents of Edelweiss Village tested negative for COVID-19. One staff member tested positive and has been removed from duty and advised to self-quarantine.
The availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) has been an ongoing issue on our campus – as it has been in many other facilities. We were fortunate to receive donations of PPE from several individuals, as well as organizations large and small. We are truly grateful for this outpouring of support. We continue our relentless search for additional resources to keep our inventory stable. Our current supply of PPE is sufficient to meet our needs for the upcoming week.
