The environment of the Schrafft Pavilion was designed with guidance from the Alzheimer’s Association. Key features of the safe and secure environment include:
- Semi-private bedrooms to encourage socialization and relationship building
- Bedrooms located on outer walls, allowing for outside lighting and views of the outside
- Ample adjustable light fixtures to adapt to the mood of residents
- Central walking path provides continuous ambulation
- No visual breaks in flooring to act as a perceived barrier
- Smaller, more intimate dining spaces to encourage socialization
- Memory boxes outside bedrooms to assist residents in finding personal space
- Accented walls provide definition to a room
- Color-coded bedrooms to assist residents in way-finding
- Secure outdoor garden area with a walking path, lap garden and abundant seating
