Making the Right Choice
Choosing nursing home care can be difficult. Before entrusting the care of a loved one to strangers, it is essential to carefully examine the home.
You'll want to visit the facility and consider many questions, including:
- Are the residents dressed, clean and active?
- Are staff members and residents relaxed and comfortable?
- Is the atmosphere warm and homelike?
- Is the dining experience pleasant and adapted to the residents' needs?
- Is there a wide-ranging activity program?
- Are spiritual needs considered?
- Are the residents given choices whenever possible?
- Is there an active and ongoing rehab program?
- Is resident independence encouraged?
- Is the unit appropriate to the needs of the potential resident?
- Is the facility accredited by the Joint Commission (JCAHO)?
- Are staff members carefully screened and do caregivers receive ongoing training?
At the German Centre, you'll be pleased and relieved at the answers to these questions. And, because they are our greatest supporters, be sure to talk to staff, residents and families. We believe you will see how more than 85 years of caring translates into a better quality of life for our residents.
